chemical peels

Corrective Chemical Peels-These peels are gentle yet effective, allowing faster results for whatever skin condition you may have. Superficial to medium depth.

Before your appointment:  If you have a breakout of cold sores or fever blisters on the face before your scheduled appointment, please notify your skin care therapist and reschedule the appointment.  Direct sunlight exposure is to be completely avoided immediately following the treatment (including any strong UV light exposure and tanning beds).  If some sun exposure cannot be avoided, first apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater.  Sunscreen (with at least a SPF of 15) should become a part of your daily skin care regimen as your skin will become more sensitive to the sun as a result of this treatment.  Discontinue use of Retin A for at least one week prior to the treatment.  Refrain from sunbathing your face and neck for at least 5 days prior and immediately after your scheduled appointment.

Download your client profile/consent form and fill out prior to your appointment or Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment to fill out your paperwork.

Glycolic and Lactic Peels:

With Glycolic and Lactic Peels there should be little to no flaking;  it is a micro peel and you do receive shedding, just at a microscopic level.  Keep in mind with Glycolic or Lactic peels a series of 6-8 once a week will be most effective for desired results.  You may continue the pre-peel routine during these light peels.  It is important that you always use a sunblock of at least SPF 30.

Salicylic and TCA Peels:

With Salicylic or TCA peels, there is flaking.  Every person is different on how much peeling or flaking he/she will experience.  After a Salicylic or TCA peel, it is important to follow your skin therapist instructions.

Preparation for Salicylic or TCA or A series of Glycolic or Lactic Lightening peels:  (You will receive a customized routine) Begin home care products at least one week, without irritation, prior to your first treatment. This will ensure that your skin is prepared to get the most benefit from your peel.

Exercise, sauna, whirlpool and hot tub should be avoided (perspiration is salty and can cause drying and flaking of the skin); it is preferable to wait until the peel process is complete (generally 7-10 days)

If small patches of irritation occur, apply a Hydrocortisone cream on the area for 2-3 days.  DO NOT PEEL, PULL OR SCRATCH ANY SKIN OFF YOUR FACE – NO MATTER HOW SMALL THE AREA.  This WILL cause damage and compromise your results as well as possibly cause severe scarring. Skin needs to flake off, not be pulled off. If small patches of irritation occur, apply a Hydrocortisone 1% cream or Aquaphor ointment for 2-3 days this is available at your local pharmacy.

If you experience painful areas of the face, contact your skin care therapist immediately, especially if you are prone to cold sores.  Any blisters that form will need to be reported immediately.

In event that you may have additional questions or concerns regarding your treatment or suggested home product/post treatment care, you must consult your skin care therapist immediately.

DO NOT apply any type of Glycolic acid or exfoliation products as this can severely damage or irritate the skin during the entire healing process.

It is within normal limits to experience a slight crusting of the face; some discoloration may also occur.  All of these occurrences are temporary.  Remember, we are chemically burning the surface of the skin.  It is normal for skin to dry and flake off, revealing fresh, healthy skin

What to expect After a Salicylic or TCA Peel:

Day 1:  Pink to red skin

Day 2:  Skin looks normal, but starting to look brown.

Day 3:  Skin looks brown, wrinkled.  This is the effect of the chemical peel; it will flake off.

Day 4:  Skin is beginning to crack and the start of peeling occurs.  Do not pick.

Days 5-7:  Skin is flaking and peeling off.  Do not pick.  New, fresh skin is revealed.

Days 8-10:  Cheeks and forehead will continue to slough, but the results of the peel are being seen with fresh, healthy skin.
